The Victorian Era - Rose Tinted Glasses?

I've always had a great love for the Victorian era. The fashions, the way of life and the mind-set of the Victorian era was so different to the way things are today. I sometimes think I was born in completely the wrong era. I would have been far better suited to the Victorian, Edwardian or Tudor times, or maybe even the 30's or 40's! Life then was a far less complicated affair. Gender roles were firmly defined and everyone knew where they stood. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying everything was rosy. The Victorian era was not all happiness and smiles for everyone, it had it's fair share of problems just like every other time in history. Life for the rich was totally different from that of the poor. The poor were excluded from many of the privileges in high society. But despite this I still believe life was a lot better for all when men were men and women were women and everyone knew where they stood.
