Encouragement For Christians Experiencing Racism

The thought of a Christian being racist is a very tricky one indeed. I mean, a Christian racist - isn't that an oxymoron? Well, erm.... yes it is! Yet too many people who claim to be Christians harbour some pretty unsavoury, hateful, racist and bigoted attitudes towards black people, especially black women. Many people who claim to be Christians in the UK are racist. That may not be a very palatable thing to say openly, but it's a fact. It is very difficult trying to believe in a God who's followers not only do not obey their own holy book but actively persecute those they dislike, because of their skin colour. It can be very daunting and very hurtful when a human being is treated in an inferior way because of their race or skin colour, both of which are things they had no power over and which they can do nothing about. And it is especially hurtful when those behaving in this way claim to be Christians. But of course, not everybody who claims to be a Christian actually is one. And we should remember this. This post is really aimed at those who have become angry because of the racism they've experienced at the hands of people who claim to be Christians. Anyone out there (regardless of race) who is angry against God or others because of the racism they have experienced or seen others experience in the church, I truly sympathize. But we need to remember that it is not God's fault that people choose to disobey Him and live selfishly. No one should be blaming God. God is not the Author of the prejudice and bigotry that is rife in churches in the UK. Racism is the work of the enemy and his evil aim is to see as many people bitter and twisted against God as possible. It is very easy to become angry and bitter and turn against God and the Church when treated unjustly. And the enemy (who is a genius when it comes to human nature) knows this. But this is what I'd like to say to those people (usually women) who are experiencing racism at the hands of 'Christians'. Any Christian who is experiencing unjust treatment, including any sort of racial prejudice or victimisation at the hands of Christians, needs to do one thing - keep your eyes on Jesus! It can be difficult, but it must be done. Jesus said He has sent us as lambs amongst wolves. And sadly, not only are there wolves in the world, but there are many in the church too. There are many bogus Christians in churches, and that's why racism is so rife.

Have you ever wondered why so many people hate you because of the colour of your skin black female? Every wondered why? You need to know this.
It is no coincidence! The reason you are being singled out and hated because of your skin colour is so that the enemy can cause you to become angry and bitter at God and the church and to separate you from God. The enemy (the devil) uses racism to cause you to become angry with God, angry with Christians, ruin your relationship with God and turn you against the church. He wants to see you discouraged, beaten down and defeated and he uses racists to achieve his goal.

I'll go further. The enemy is afraid of genuine Christians. He doesn't care one bit about the hypocrites or worldly compromisers! But real Christians who are genuine born-again believers are a threat to his kingdom. And he looks for an area of weakness in every genuine Christian to work on to try to drive them away from God. With some people it's worldliness, some it could be fear or unbelief or materialism, others it could be a warped view of God that causes a stumbling block whilst with others it could be sensitivity caused by experiencing racism in the past. And if a person who has experienced racism in the past becomes a Christian and then finds that same racism in the church amongst those who claim to be Christians, that could be the straw that breaks the camels back. 'Aah, just as I thought, they're all hypocrites', they think to themselves. Or 'I thought Christians were supposed to love people. Didn't know it was only whites they were told to love'. Finding people in the church who are just as racist as those who do not claim to be Christians is very disturbing, especially for a brand new Christian. It comes as a great shock to find this out. And it has caused untold anger and confusion for many people. Some who have experienced racism at the hands of so-called Christians have wanted nothing more to do with the church (Ghandi for one) after experiencing such blatant hypocrisy. And as far as I'm concerned that is a tragedy. Christ is being totally misrepresented by these racist bigots. To drive a person away from God because of a person's selfishness is a terrible and wicked thing to do. And I believe it will carry very serious eternal consequences, not only for the driven away but for the hypocrite who drove them away.

If a person who is a Christian experiences racism in the church, it is because the enemy is afraid of the plans God has for them so he is doing everything he can to prevent them from serving God if they haven't begun, and if they have begun, he is doing everything in his power to get them to quit! He wants them down, discouraged, angry, bitter and defeated. The enemy knows that if a person has a bitter spirit, they are not able to serve God fully and God's purposes will be hindered in that person's life.

Anyone experiencing racism at the hands of those who claim to be Christians must not allow themselves to become discouraged. They must not allow anyone to drive them away from God. Racist Christians are wolves in sheep's clothing who judge people's worth by skin colour. They are sent into the church by the enemy to cause harm to people. But these wolves can only discourage you if you allow them to. If you are a Christian who is experiencing racism, please, do not allow the racists to get to you. Do not allow racists to tell you who you are, or what you are. You get your identity from God, not the racist bigot who is full of ignorant, racist stereotypes about others. Stand firm in the faith. Hold fast to your faith in Jesus Christ. Consider the unjust treatment as a test of your faith and therefore a privilege. And whatever happens, keep your eyes on Jesus. Just keep holding on to Jesus Christ and God will surely bring you through the situation you are in. No racist bigot can stop a genuine Christian from following Jesus. It is only when we take our eyes off of Jesus and put them onto man or onto our situation that we become discouraged. You have an assignment to fulfill in this lifetime, will you fulfill it? Or will you be destracted and discouraged by racist bigots in the church? God has called you to fulfill the plan and purpose He has set for you. And it is a great plan and a great purpose! Will you let Satan's servants (racist bigots in the church) hold you back and prevent you from doing God's will? God forbid! I'll repeat what I said earlier. The reason you are being attacked by racists who claim to be Christians is to drive you away from God, and from the church. It's as simple as that. You are a threat to the kingdom of darkness.

As said before, racism is a tool satan uses to cause a person to become angry and bitter. Will you be fooled by him? Will you take the bait? If you will be alert and walk wisely you will not bite at the bait and fall into this trap. The only way to avoid this trap and live in victory is to keep your eyes on Jesus. If you put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ 100%, (and I mean 100 percent) He will help you to live right before God, help you to find and do God's will and bring you through to victory, despite the racist bigots around you! So be encouraged. God is with you always. And He does not view you as the racist does. The racist views a black woman according to his or her own selfish heart. God views a black woman according to His Truth, and His Heart of love. And the truth is that black woman, being persecuted because of the colour of your skin - God loves you! If you live in the UK, and are a black, female Christian you will usually hear two voices almost every single day. Satan's (via the racist) and God's. Which voice will you listen to? Whichever voice you decide to listen to will determine your whole future. Choose wisely. Ignore the lying demon of racism. Anyone who is a racist is a liar and a false accuser who serves the devil. They live to do the devil's will. Do not be discouraged by their lies. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who is Truth. Keep your ears open to God's Truth. Seek out what God says about you in His Word, and live accordingly. Listen to God's view of you only, because unlike the racist bigot, God will never lie about you. Not to you - or to anyone else.
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3 v 28)
Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts? (James 2 v 4)
If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? (1 John 4 v 20)
