Well, today I took the plunge and went out and bought 'The Editors' latest CD 'An End Has A Start'. Decided to buy it after hearing a few tunes from it on the internet. Brilliant! Admittedly it is not as strong as their first album, but it is still good nonetheless. Bought their first album 'The Back Room' in 2005 (or 2006) and I can honestly say it is probably one of the best CD's I've ever bought. An End Has A Start sees lead singer and lyricist Tom Smith more focused on the power of redemption and the human necessity for friendship and family in the face of death. The album's lyrics are closely linked to events over the last year or so.Tom explains: "There is a lot of death on the record, that sounds pretty morbid but it's the truth. Death has touched me and my friends in the last year in several ways. Realizing everything comes to an end is important and I think we've done our best to make it something glorious and uplifting as well as scary." The quality of The Editors music is far superior to many other Indie groups as far as I'm concerned. They have a sound all of their own, even though other groups may have copied their sound a little. There has been quite a bit of copying and 'borrowing' of ideas amongst Indie bands and it shows. You can hear something of Coldplay in some 'Editors', 'Snow Patrol' or 'Embrace' tunes, and something of 'The Editors' in some Coldplay tunes. (especially their latest ones, after their long break away from the UK) In my humble opinion, 'The Editors' music surpasses others in many ways, mainly due to their superior guitar sounds and the dolcite tones of Tom Smith's voice. Nice album. (And 'The Back Room' is even better!)
